Sassello, less than two thousand residents in an area of over 100 square kilometers, is located on the Apennine watershed between Liguria and Piemonte. It is one of the most important cultural centers in the Savona countryside and “La Guida della Montagna” (Mondadori ed.) defines it as a “sparkling holiday resort”, thanks to the vivacious blend of air, sun, woods, meadows, streams and waterfalls that have made it a famous tourist destination over the years. Since 1999 Sassello has been awarded the “Orange Flag” (the first ever municipality in Italy), a tourist-environmental quality brand born as an official recognition for those inland locations that represent examples of land particularly rich in nature, landscape and culture combined with quality tourist reception. Finally much of the territory of Sassello is included in the Regional Natural Park of Beigua that since November 2015 is recognized as a UNESCO site within the prestigious list of UNESCO Global Geoparks and which preserves two of the most beautiful naturalistic emergencies of the Park: the state Deiva Forest and the bog of the Laione.

There are numerous buildings of particular historical – architectural interest: the Town Hall (end of the 17th century), the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (1582-1584), the noble architectures of the palaces of 17th, 18th and 19th century: Palazzo Gervino, Palazzo Perrando, home of the Museum of the same name and Palazzo Doria (perhaps the last gynaeceum of Liguria with its “Giardino delle Anime Pure”). Some other notable things to see are: the elegant cemetery where Beatified Chiara Luce Badano is buried, the Parochial Church of the SS. Trinità (1654-1725) with the apse frescoed by Paolo Gerolamo Brusco, the fifteenth century Chapel of S. Antonio Abate (with 17th century canvas by Giovanni Battista Carlone), the Church of S.Rocco (1630 with work by Domenico Piola), the Church of S. Sebastiano (1637) and the Parochial Church of S. Giovanni (1300), which preserves paintings from the 16th and 17th century including a painting attributed to the school of Luca Cambiaso and a statue of San Giovanni Battista attributed to Maragliano. Located in the Franciscan convent complex (1620) is the Napoleonic Museum and the Museum Complex that houses the prestigious collection of the Eng. Giuliano Bianchi (1944-1991), with works by Mirò, Francis Bacon, Sol LeWitt, Mario Schifano, Emanuele Scanavino, Alighiero Boetti and many others.
